Frequently Asked Questions
When placing your order, you will have the option to choose between five sizes:
XS, S, M, L and XL.
To get the perfect size, you must first measure the width of your middle finger, as instructed on our product page. Once you have selected your size, you can proceed with your order. We will send you three 3D prints for you to confirm your size, free of charge.
Once you confirm your size with a physical sample, let us know by email.
We will then send your Atlas by DHL Express. Free Worldwide Shipping.
You may measure between sizes, but it's unlikely that our thimbles won't fit you. Your fingertip is soft and a smaller or bigger size will eventually fit. Your finger shape will adapt to the inner walls of your thimble.
You might think that you're between sizes if you have tried two sizes and are still experiencing the thimble falling off your finger. While size might truly be the issue in your case, it's probably your technique.
Atlas was designed to prevent tailors from using the wrong sewing technique and damaging their fingers in the long run. Pushing the needle with the sides of the thimble will either rotate it or make it fall off.
We recommend practicing the right technique by watching this video:

If you're still unsure about the size of your thimble, please contact us and we'll do our best to make sure you have the right size.
If we have your size or model in stock, usually within five working days, after you have confirmed your size based on the size samples. However, if your size or model is not in stock, then it can take up to four months, for you to receive your thimble after your pre-order.
The amount of waiting time depends on when you ordered and how many total orders we are processing. Atlas is produced in small batches.
We will confirm your estimate waiting time after you place your pre-order.
If you have used your current Atlas, then you cannot swap it for a new black version.
However, if you have bought a new Classic Sterling and upon arrival you change your mind, we will accept a swap. But only if you:
Have not yet used the thimble
Cover all shipping costs relating the swap (from you back to us and from us back to you)
Silver is a soft metal. However the strength of a silver thimble depends on its thickness. Atlas is tested for strength. It has a minimum wall thickness of 1mm.
It takes about 35kg of applied pressure with a sharp tool to pierce a hole through it.
Stepping on Atlas will likely hurt your foot or damage wooden floors.
We can personalise your thimble with engravings on the inside. This will be an additional cost.
If you want to personalise the inside of your thimble, please send us an image or text that you want to have engraved. This will allow us to give you a price estimate.
The delivery time will of course be longer as we first have to engrave your thimble.
We don't recommend you do this. Old thimbles were often hammered for a better fit as tailors couldn't find quality thimbles that fitted. Atlas offers you 5 sizes to choose from and its smooth inside offers maximum grip.
If you hammer your thimble, and it gets damaged in that process, we will not accept returns for a refund.
Atlas Thimbles are produced through casting techniques. Our silversmith goes through a tedious process involving multiple steps to make each individual thimble.
Before being cast in silver, wax models are made of each individual thimble. These are then assembled on a tree. This wax tree of thimbles is then immersed in a ceramic liquid which is left to dry.
This ceramic flask is heated and the wax thimbles are melted out. This makes the ceramic flask ready to be poured with molten silver.
Once cast, each thimble is individually finished. It takes five hours to finish just one Atlas.
Atlas Tailors Thimbles are made in small batches. Only 20 at a time.
