Atlas Thimble 3D Printing Process

Professional and High Quality Tool  ★★★★★

"After weeks of using Atlas I can say: It’s head and shoulders above my old thimbles. Besides looking excellent, it fits nicely and sticks to my finger despite its noticeable weight. I can lock the needle better because its dents are bigger and deeper. It doesn’t stain my finger. When I put on Atlas, I have a conviction that I'm using a proper tool and can sew with concentration and confidence."

"Most tailors were never taught to correctly use an open end thimble"

Now that you know why I created Atlas, let's get technical; I've put together a list of 6 facts that make Atlas superior to all other thimbles

Written By: Reza, Founder of Akeilā and International School of Tailoring

1. No Rust – Your Finger Stays Clean

Cheap thimbles rust and leave a brown stain on your fingertip. The so-called "better" ones are lined with brass. However, brass also oxidises. It makes your finger green. Made of sterling silver, Atlas allows you to enjoy long hours of sewing without staining your finger or causing allergic reactions.

2. Corrects Your Sewing Technique

Atlas is designed to prevent you from using the wrong sewing technique. Most tailors were never taught to correctly use an open end thimble. The dimples on Atlas are arranged inside eight separate windows. This unique arrangement encourages the correct frontal use of your finger and prevents you from using the wrong technique. Never push the needle with the side of your finger. You will be working against your natural joint movement. Using the wrong technique with Atlas will either rotate the thimble on your finger or make it fall off!

3. Max Needle Grip – Sew With Speed

The dimples on Atlas are rhombus shaped at the top and round at the base. They are 0.8mm deep. Never skip a needle during high performance work. Especially when sewing on flat surfaces. Cheap thimbles have dimples that are only 0.5mm deep. Besides very little thought has gone into the shape of their dimples. They were never designed or tested by tailors who use a thimble on a daily basis. This results in thimbles with poor needle grip and the development of bad sewing habits. Especially among students.

4. A Fourth Check Just in Case

Atlas is not mass produced in a factory. It is handmade in England in limited batches by one artisan. Quality Control is strict. Atlas goes through three independent inspections: First by the artisan jeweller, then by myself at International School of Tailoring and last but not least by the Goldsmiths' Company Essay Office in London. Although I always do a fourth check when I get the thimbles back from the Assay Office, just to make sure there are no scratches on them after hallmarking.

5. Soft Feel – Comfortable Fit

The upper part of Atlas cups your fingertip. This prevents it from sinking any lower on your finger than necessary. Cheap thimbles feel rough on the inside. Because the dimples are punched on the outer surface and can be felt on the inside. Atlas however, feels soft. Its interior is mirror-polished to provide a smooth yet firm grip on your finger.

Is Atlas Worth It? YES!  ★★★★★

“I have been using it quite regularly on different fabric weights. The sterling silver gives it a compact build, but it doesn't feel heavy on your finger. Also, it doesn’t leave dark marks on your fingertip. It’s designed to help and elevate your sewing.”
