At low sewing angles, the needle can slip across the curved surface of a round tailor’s thimble.

On Atlas, the needle has flatter contact points and deep dimples to help it stay in position.

Regular thimbles allow the needle to easily slide on the surface and don't give the needle stability.

Deep rhombus shaped dents give the needle a stable place to land and stay in position.

THE ATLAS GRIP SYSTEM

Why the needle slips on ordinary thimbles

Protection Is Not the Same as Needle Control

Most thimbles are round, oval or shaped mainly for protection. They cover your finger, but they do not always give the needle a stable place to push against.

When sewing at lower angles, especially on a table or through heavier cloth, the needle can slip across the surface of the thimble. The tailor is then forced to adjust the hand, push from the side, or use more pressure than necessary.

Atlas was designed around this problem: not only how a thimble fits and protects your finger, but how well it holds the needle.

When sewing at low angles with a regular round or oval thimble, the needle often slips when facing resistance, especially at low sewing angles.

Because of its octagonal shape, Atlas offers better grip as the flat surfaces act as flat walls. Along with deep dents, sewing at low angles faces less resistance.

LOW-ANGLE NEEDLE CONTROL

Flat contact points for better needle control

The Shape Is the Feature

Atlas is shaped differently from ordinary round or oval thimbles. Around the body, eight flat windows create more defined contact points for the needle.

Instead of sliding across a continuously curved surface, the needle has flatter areas to push against. This helps it stay in position, especially when sewing at lower angles or working through heavier layers.

Together with deep needle dents, the shape of Atlas is designed to improve grip without forcing the tailor to change the natural position of the hand.

Don't Let Your Flow Be Interupted

Switch to Atlas Today

Getting used to a bad thimble won't make the thimble better.

A good thimble will help you develop the right technique immediately and give you a better sewing flow.  A thimble that has better grip will eventually put less pressure on your joints, prevent awkward hand gestures and other habits you'd develop to keep the needle in place.
